Board of Appeals

Role
The Board of Appeals hears and decides variances, special exceptions, cases involving non-conforming uses and appeals of administrative decisions by the Department of Planning.  All decisions are based strictly on standards in the Development Regulations.  The Board meets -- when action is required -- at 6 p.m. on the third Tuesday of the month in Bel Air Town Hall at 39 N. Hickory Avenue.

Composition

The Board of Appeals is a five-member body appointed by the Board of Town Commissioners to three-year terms. The board acts in a quasi-judicial role as dictated by the State of Maryland Article of the Maryland Annotated Code. Members must be a town resident and serve without compensation.
